Legacy Learning Centres
International is located in the city of Zarqa
in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Launched in September 2009 by Fraser &
Puanana Haug, in partnership with Peter Omran, it began as a small seed of
hope. The hope that it would be the beginning of a family of schools dedicated
to healthy, stimulating and effective education for young children and a
resource for equipping national teachers interested in reforming an outdated
and often cruel system of education.
Although Legacy remains
small in numbers with 41 children enrolled and 5 fulltime staff, it has become
highly esteemed with the Ministry of Education, families and educational
professionals for its quality education and nurturing environment. It is the first,
and remains the only, truly bilingual English/Arabic school in Zarqa.
In 2012 grades 1 & 2
will be added with one additional grade added per year until grade 6. This will
ensure sustainable development for both the children and the program.
Legacy Learning Centres
International uses the Montessori approach to education, which emphasised the
development of the whole child by providing a carefully prepared learning
environment. Children and teachers work together to build a solid foundation of
knowledge, skill, self-esteem and social grace. Each child is respected as a
valuable individual worthy of every available opportunity to reach their
fullest potential.
